A couple of things you might want to try are: Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer software/drivers and see if you have the same problem with a fresh install. Close any extra programs running in the back ground out to minimize the potential for other software to cause conflicts. And while the mouse is not likely to cause this, if possible uninstall the Logitech mouse and software and install a regular mouse and see if that makes a difference.
Stephen. Thanks for the advice. I reloaded the software/drivers off the disk I received with the printer and the same problem occurred. I then downloaded the software/drivers from the Dell site and tried that, but the same thing. I then installed a PS/2 mouse and it works OK, by doing that. I then installed the Optical mouse and the PS/2 works on the pages, but the Optical one does not.
So does this make it a Dell problem or a Logitech problem. I see the PS/2 mouse that came with the system is also a Logitech mouse.
I really don’t know where your issue is coming from, it may be an incompatibility with the software for the mouse and printer, but software issues could also be a combination between other programs. It is difficult to isolate something like that without some pretty drastic testing steps such as stripping a system to the barest hardware configuration, clean install of Windows with no extra software loaded, and then install the two things that are potentially conflicting. If the problem happens, there is come conflict between the two devices. If the problem does not reoccur, you begin adding other software and hardware devices back and see if the issue returns. This can help isolate what things are working together to cause a conflict. If you have another mouse available, it may not be worth going all that trouble trying to isolate what is causing it. I did a quick search and could not find any other references to this issue, but you may want to email Logitech and see if they have heard of anything like that.
Stephen, thanks again for the update. I have contacted Logitech and they requested that I remove the mouseware software, download the new version (already using), do a "CLEAN BOOT PROCEDURE" for both the mouse and the printer software. I did all of that, but it did not change anything. Still the same problem.
I also noticed, but forgot to mention earlier, that when doing the actual print of a document and the "PRINTING STATUS" box opens up that shows the percentage of printing done, the mouse also temporarily freezes up, but releases itself temporarily, then freezes again etc while the document is printing. This doesn't affect the PS/2 mouse and also does not do it with another printer.
I noticed a post earlier that someone else was having the same problem, so it is not just me that has encountered this type of situation.
I really appreciate the help.
If anyone else is encountering this problem, could you please add to this post. Thanks
I've been having the same issue and it is driving me insane! I've reinstalled and updated the printer driver and my mouse is a PS/2 one that came with my non-Dell computer and has been working with 100's of programs over the years. I run XP and seem to have better luck when I restart the computer after powering on prior to logging on - no idea why.
I have received the "blue screen of death" a couple of times while trying to print which indicated a problem with win32k.sys. I'm trying to get it to do it again so I can "Google" the exact error text in hopes that I can find a solution. However, the computer freezes before I can get the death screen!
