Problems with printing with Windows 7 and Dell wireless adapter 3300

I just purchased a new computer with Windows 7 and since then I have two problems:

(1) Even though I can print to my Dell Photo 964 if connected directly to my computer, I cannot print through my wireless adapter (Dell 3300).

(2)  I can't print web pages.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks.

dawgsrock,

Sorry for the delay. Had to get files on the backup computer.

Are all three green lights lit on the 3300?

Here a few things to look at before we proceed further.

You cannot print or view the print preview of a webpage in Internet Explorer 9

You cannot print or print preview Web pages in Internet Explorer on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

Rick:

When I try to print any web page I get this error message:

An error has occurred on this page.

Unexpected call to method or property access.

How do I fix that?

dawgsrock,

You never got back to me to see if you were able to install the 3300. Setting up the Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300

Have seen people getting error messages that were using Internet Explorer 9.

Yes.  All three lights are on.  I will proceed to install the driver per your instructions.

So I will not be able to print web pages on IE9?  That seems like a major screw-up on Microsoft's part.

I tried to install the 3300 adapter and then the printer but I can't print.  I get the message "Printer can't communicate with the computer".  I unplugged the printer; disconnected the USB cable and restarted the computer as it requested but still nothing.

dawgsrock,

All three lights are green, that's a good sign.

With the printer not attached to the Windows 7 machine...

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer. If using a Dell computer, please read the warning.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers I have listed at...

Dell 964 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7) The patch can also be found there.

Install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode, Choose network, then if the printer is not listed, click add and you should see...

Then follow the instructions.

Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Also try this tweak.

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

dawgsrock,

That should only be if you're installing it on a host computer. You have the printer attached to the 3300.

Try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here.

I have to work and will not be on until tomorrow. Will help you then. It does connect and work With Windows 7 64-bit. I had it working until I got rid of the printer. Was replaced with a Dell V715w Wireless printer. I still have the 3300.

Rick:

I fiddled with this thing before I got your latest post above.  I uninstalled the driver and re-installed it and it now works!  It even prints web pages!

The only downside I noticed is when I try to print from Quicken, it says "Problems Communicating with Printer.  The operation completed successfully".  I hit OK.  Then the same message displays again.  I hit OK again and then it prints.

dawgsrock,

What happens if you click, file, print and make sure the proper printer is selected?

Was Quicken installed before the printer?

Do you think installing Quicken after installing the printer, things would work better?

Still nothing.  I thought at one time it was installed because it printed an alignment page.  But I cannot print a test page.  It said my driver was not installed and said to re-install it.  I went to to driver that was unzipped from the R146813 file and re-installed but still nothing.

I got the message that the problem was that the printer was not shared with the Homegroup so I fixed that as an administrator, but still nothing.

I can't click file, print when I am printing reports...just allows me to click print at the top of the page.

Quicken has been installed on the computer for weeks now.  Do you think I should re-install it?

dawgsrock,

I'm not sure if it will help or not. You could create a system restore poit to come back to what you have right now.

I don't have/use Quicken so I don't know how involved it is or if you'll loose anything or not. That's an option you may want to consider.

dawgsrock,

No one turned off the printer, correct? All three lights are green?

What I would consider doing...

I would start with loging into my wireless router and use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier. Remember to power everything off for 30 seconds and restart your computer.

Connect to your new network. I would then setup the 3300. New firmware might not be important.  Setting up the Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300

When you finally connect the printer(powered on) all three lights should be green.

Run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Run the patch(printer cleanup utiltiy) until it prompts you to restart your computer. I forgot the patch does not unzip for XP, password protected. Thry the instructions HERE.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed.Manual Printer Driver Removal

Install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode choose network, then follow the instructions. I then went in to the printer setup utility(think it's in all programs, dell 3300 wireless adapter) clicked on TCP/IP Settings.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

--------------------------------------

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
