Scan to MS Word

Question

Dell AIO Scanning document(s) to MS Word ends up flashing a dialog box requesting select Rich Text Format.  Do that and the document is saved in My document with a date/time title.  Need to Edit/Save As word document to get it to print right.  Why is the document saved in RTF format when I already selected MS Word and should save in *.doc format?

Word can read rtf files just fine.

Dell AIO printer will not scan to MS Word even when selected with the Menu.  Document goes to My Documents with title of date/time in Rich Text Format (TRF).  Have to open the doc and then save it to Word Document.  Why doesn't it go to Word Document in the first place?
