Chrys,

Did you try unplugging the printer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in?

Try restarting the computer and see if that helps?

Try these tweaks...

Start, control panel, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Rick,

Thanks for you suggestion. I did uncheck the Root Hub box but it did not fix the problem. The printer and copy functions work just fine but when I try to scan from my desktop I get the error message from the Dell Scan Software "Network Communication Error". When I click on the "More Info" function it simply tells me there is a general communication error with the printer and to try the power off, switch to a USB cable [which I am already using], restart the computer [which I have done], switch to USB if using a VPN [I don't even know what a VPN is] and be sure that DKADcoms.exe is not blocked by my firewall.

I have searched for the DKADcoms.exe file on my PC and can not find it??

Recently, I checked for software update downloads from Dell and downloaded two updates :Dell V720 Series ADI Win 64 HBP [28 mb] and Dell V720 Series ADI Installation Package [175 mb]. As the downloads were installing it checked for any updates online and found several, all of which were deemed "critical" and were downloaded. When these downloads were being extracted the process aborted at "1 of 6" and gave the option to try again, which I did but the extraction did not move from "1 of 6". So I had to cancel these "critical update" downloads in order to finish the initial downloads from the Dell Download Manager.

How can I get my scanner to work?

Thanks,

Chrys

Chrys,

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Can you run Network Interface IF the printer is wireless.

The Updates may have caused this issue. Let me know the virus program and firewall first, before we proceed.

Rick,

I have McAfee, AOL Special Version, antivirus and firewall:

Security Center Version 12.8; build 12.8.988; Antivirus Version 16.8; build 16.8.819; Firewall Version 13.8; build 13.8.720.

I don't know anything about "Network Interface"?? Should I try to set up wireless and disconnect the USB cable?

Chrys,

First try...

Allow a printer past McAfee

If that doesn't work, then download and run Belarc Advisor to get you McAfee product key.

I would then run the McAfee Removal Tool and uninstall McAfee. Restart the computer and see if things are working.

Then reinstall McAfee.

Rick,

I checked to be sure the IP address of the printer was allowed in McAfee and changed the security level to "Work"......no difference. Still the same error message Network Communication Error. Then I uninstalled the McAfee software, no difference.....and then reinstalled.

My printer is connected using an ethernet cable which goes to the Motorola wireless modem for my ATT Uverse service which is used for my Dell Notebook wireless and NetFlix wireless DSL access. When I try to scan with my wireless notebook I get the same error message Network Communication Error however I can print from my Notebook just fine either from MSWord or from the internet but can not get the scan function to work, the same as my Desktop PC.

On the Dell printer control panel it will show the Ethernet connection as connected on the display. I know my PC is communicating with the printer because I can print documents from my PC software or the internet just fine just like the Notebook does so I don't understand why the error message except the error message is only popping up in the Dell Software Scan function??

Any ideas what to do?

Chrys

Chrys,

The printer is a wireless printer. It can connect to your network wirelessly. I would setup the printer for wireless. A desktop computer that is connected to your wireless router, with an ethernet cable, can print to the wireless printer without attaching a usb cable.
