Scanning problem with p513w and Windows XP SPK3

Hello I am trying to install a Dell Multifunction Printer (P513W) on a Dell Dimension 4600 PC with Windows XP SPK3 as the operating system.

During installation of the disk that came with the P513W an error popped saying that it could not find usbscan.sys, I searched the machine myself located the file and pointed the installer in the files direction.  The software then finished installation.

However, scanning from the PC does not work.  Also at every reboot the PC finds new hardware and trys to reinstall the driver, I think, for USB Mass Storage.

At this point I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything about 4 times, and I'm starting to think that either the software on the driver disk has a problem with Windows XP in general or something about this machines usb subsystem are borked.

As a test I did install the printer on a machine with Vista on it and the scanning and printing all worked fine.

Any suggestions?
