Spooler problems - print spooler not running - Lexmark X63.
I am trying to install a printer on Laptop - Lexmark x63 - and I am getting an error. When I try to print - after installation of printer - I get the error - print spooler not running. The problem seems to be with the computer - not the printer??? But I dont know for sure.
I tried stopping and restarting the spooler at the command prompt (sc config spooler demand= RPCSS start= AUTO) - did not work.
I also tried stopping and starting the spooler under Administrative Tools/Services. And starting and stopping LexBce server.

SHAEBLACK,
Try this. Hit the Windows Key and the R key at the same time. Type
services.msc
Hit enter. Look for sometyhing with 4 letters, like lexm or something that might start with a L(I have a Dell Printer, made by Lexmark and mine is called dlcj). Make sure it's set for automatic and restart the service. Also go to Print Spooler, make sure it's set for automatic and restart the service.
What happens?

SHAEBLACK,
If I did my research better, I should have answered the last post better, sorry. LexBce server should be on manual or automatic and restart the service, also Print Spooler should bo on automatic and restart the sertvice.
Also what operating system do you have? This printer is only compatably with 2000, NT 4.0 and XP. If you're trying to install this on a Vista machine, you just may be out of luck.

my operating system is XP. The problem seems to be with the Print Spooler.
I can restart the LexBce server - I am unable to start it - restart is not an option. How to I start or restart the print spooler? The error says it is not there - nothing to restart is what I am understanding it to say.
I tried downloading drivers and installing them.

SHAEBLACK,
I have some good new and some bad news for you. Good news is I found a post with your error message with a Lexmark Printer involved.
After calling Lexmark, I resolved my problem when they told me it was a system error, so I thought that I could repair XP software with the second repair option with the CD, and it worked for me. The print spooler service as started afterwards, when I looked, where it wouldn't start previously.
To repair the Operating System, it's alway a good practice to make copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose. This should be a normal practice.
If you have the Operating system disks and you have a Dell Laptop, it's really an easy process. If you do NOT have the Dell disks, please request a set by clicking below my post.
Insert the Operating system disk and restart the computer.
Press any key to boot from the CD.
Choose install
Do the agreement
Now choose repair
Leave the disk in until you get the Welcome screen. Takes about 30 minutes.
How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems
Go to Windows Updates and get all the Windows updates, again. I have the custom ones too, especially the .net framework(Needed to run many applications). Also make sure to have the latest Java.
Restart the computer.
Now try installing the proper printer drivers and everything should work again.
Good Luck,
Rick
Let me know how you make out.
