llynster,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my messsage.
• Nothing has changed: no new software or hardware has been installed.
• The syntax/io error "appears" in the form of a printed first page with the following messages (variations in parenthesis), after a while the page(s) print correctly:
ERROR: syntaxerror (ioerror)
OFFENDING COMMAND: true cvt fpgm /glyf #/head (image, imagemask)
STAK: (-dictionary-, -mark-, savelevel-)
/sfnts
• It is affecting all applications (MSWord, Adobe CS3, PDF, iTunes, and electrical engineering softwares) in both platforms.
• It happens with all types of graphics: gpeg, .ps., eps., .tif, etc.
• I use two Macs (OSX 10.4.11, and 10.5.1). Last week I downloaded the most recent driver for Macs from: http://tinyurl.com/2mnmzw
I had come across the same issue today at work. We use Windows in the office with Adobe Reader X.
I resolved the error by printing the PDF as an Image using the PostScript option (advanced tab next to the printer name in print window) - this bypasses the font sending and prints the page as shows.
You Could also try sending the font Policy for each page(in same screen) but that has not worked for me.

Since this started happening a "couple of weeks ago", what changed? Anything new installed at that time?
Where does the Syntax error actually appear? On the printer, or in the application?
Does this happen from ANY application with a graphic, or from a specific application?
What kind of graphic is it?
Are you using the PCL or PS Driver?
Can you print a simple .BMP or .JPG file from a standard MS app such as Paint?
I realize this might be a bunch of questions, but it may help narrow down the issue.

Good reply, very detailed.....
To verify, there have been no problems until "a couple weeks ago" then all of a sudden, this started?
I lay myself at your feet and proclaim I know nothing about MAC's or MAC s/w and apps.
But I do know..... things (the eloquent way of putting this) don't just happen..... there's usually a cause.
How does your MAC interface with the 3110cn? Network or USB (or parallel?) ?
How much RAM does the 3110cn have?
In the PC world, there is a "Print Test Page" function located in the printer properties pane. Do MAC's have a simular funtion?
The reason I ask is that there is a small (windows) graphic in the top left corner of the page. Do MAC's have something similar?
Do you have any friends that might be willing to loan you a PC running Windows that you can connect the 3110cn to, install the drivers, and test?
This may be the quickest way to eliminate whether this is a printer or MAC problem?
Beyond that..... I'm out of ideas.

We are having the same issues with our 3110cn but it is only when printing PDF's through Acrobat.
Some Background.
• We use a combo of Macs(OS X) and PC's (Vista and XP)
• Our printer is networked
• The pdf's are as small as 197kb
The issue is only on some pdf's and if I open the problem PDF in another program (photoshop or preview) it prints fine.
The error that we get is:
Error: ioerror
Offending Comand: imagemask

Implied, but not explicitly clear.....
Is this happening when printing from both MAC and Windows platforms?

I'm afraid the solution for this will not be clearcut.
It sounds like you have a workaround tho- opening using another app then printing.
Hmmm.... when you print the .PDF, are you selecting the PS print driver? (or just the default PCL driver?)
