My Dell 968W All in One software that I installed when I bought the printer had an OCR program that was installed as part of the initial installation. My All in One is wired to my printer via an USB and telephone line for the fax. I am operating in Windows 7 home premium.

herbtalmud,
Do you have the OCR Program installed?
How are you trying to scan?
Wired or wireless?

Herb,
I'm not sure which program this printer uses, Dell All-In-One Center, Dell Imaging Toolbox or Dell Printer Home.
You need to scan using one of the above programs. If using the Dell All-In-One Center, try and Update list of applications to send scans to
Your OCR program should be...
Start, all programs, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint
Do you have the printer disk, if the OCR Program is not installed?
