USB thumb drive printing does not print certain PDF docs
Greetings,
I just ordered one of Dell's newest printers (as of May 2011): 1355cn MFP and have been putting it through its paces.
It appears that the USB thumb drive reader cannot print PDF documents that can be printed using the regular printer functionality. Instead the USB thumb drive reader produces the error code 016-795 when trying to print the PDF.
JPG and other docs appear to print fine from the USB thumb drive, and PDF's generated by the 1355cn scanner, also seem to print properly which is quite odd.
I've been able to print all the PDFs from this USB thumb drive on printers from other manufacturers with USB plug-in capabilities.
Is this a known issue? Will there be a fix in the near future?

If like me, you are using a USB thumb drive to print because your Dell Printer ( i have a Dell C1765nfw Color MFP ) will not print from your Dell Computer ( I have a Dell Optiplex 980 ), be assured that you are not alone. I've spent hours and full workdays online with Dell trying to get it to work, but it does not. It would have been much cheaper for my company to have purchased a different brand computer and printer that worked together. Finally I have given up and decided to try to print by thumb drive, and like you I discovered that only jpg files print from the usb drive, not pdf. So... take your camera, take a picture of your document, then get that picture on a thumb drive, then you can print it! (or... just buy a different brand computer and printer and never ever ever use Dell again unless you want to spend your career trying to get their printers to print, they don't)
