Why Do I Recieve The Error "Scan File Size Is Too Large For Available Drive Space"?
The Knowledge Base does not answer the question.
Is hard to believe that a 30G of free space is not enough to save the scan file. The answer provided is to reduce the resolution, What if I don’t want to reduce the resolution? I want to scan to the highest resolution possible to look at the smallest details. Is there an option to save the file to my second drive?

RQ_FL,
Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.
This message indicates that there are not enough resources (system hard drive space, system memory or printer/scanner memory) for the scan you are attempting; this does not just refer to hard drive space. If you have 30 GB of hard drive space available it is unlikely that the hard drive space is the limiting factor. The recommended scanning resolution is 600dpi. If you want to scan at a much higher resolution, try scanning a much smaller area to use fewer resources.

I get the same message. I have a Dell 4400 with a 40 gig harddrive (28 gig free) and 512 megs of RAM. What do I need to adjust to use the higher scanning resolution?

I also am receving this error message. I have a P4 1.2mhz with 60gig drive and 512 ram with about 300megs of the ram free at all times. I can not scan a picture thats over 200megs in size. Also when i do scan a 1200res pic which the printer program sees as scanning 107megs big for the picture, it really scans a picture at about 3-4 megs in size. If it's scanning the picture into a jpeg format at that size it should be able to do it's max res don't you think so on a fast system like this?
Pleas let me know what need to be done to get it to scan bigger.
Thank you for your help in advance

You indicated in your reply that the harddrive is clearly not the limiting resource? Then what can it be. I have a standard photo image that i want to copy at a high resolution. I don't want a corner of the picture copied, I want ALL 3 1/2 inches x 4 inches of it. WHY CAN'T this scanner do this as advertised????
How do I free up the resources needed when no other applications are running? The only way I get a decent image is to copy it with best quality, but it does not create a .jpg image, it only sends it to the printer.
Thanks for your help.
