Windows 2000/Printing from DOS Programs

Hello,

We have a HP LaserJet 4100tn printer which printed fine on the LPT1 port on a PC with Windows NT4 Workstation SP4 when we were using some 16-Bit DOS programs.

We have now put the printer on the LPT1 Port of a DELL PRECISION 340 PC with Windows 2000 Professional (SP3) installed and we can no longer print from our 16-Bit DOS programs from within Windows. We just get a message saying spooler.exe isn't happy and when we view the Printers folder all the printers have disappeared until we purge the files from the Spooler and restart the PC.

We have tried using the "NET USE LPT1: //server_name/printer_name /persistent:yes" command but the print job just seems to loop and doesn't print even though you can see it listed as a job in the printer's window. Using the NET USE command as described above stops printing from Windows applications as well. However, when we either log off the user or restart the DELL PRECISION 340 PC, the print job prints!

We have tried changing the LPT1 port's settings in the BIOS, but to no avail.

Any suggestions as to how we can successfully print from our DOS programs will be much appreciated!

Thank you.

There is a special program for support printing from DOS applications on any kinds of printers include winprinters, USB-printers, network printers, print servers etc.

Also DOSPRN support Epson and HPPCL Esc-sequences emulation, multiple international codepages, landscape/portrait printing, text color manipulation, absolute positioning and many other features

HP had a version of the Jetadmin software that had this "feature" when installed to "print msdos" and capture the port etc.

The software is no longer supported.
