Windows XP x64 Driver 1700/1700n
Is there a planned Win XP x64 Dell Laser 1700/1700n Printer Driver being developed? If so, what is the timeframe for general availiability?

I'm also waiting for a x64 driver for my 1700 printer. I'm thisclose to dumping it and going out and buying a brand that does have driver support. I'm tired of waiting.

An update on that last post.
I just changed the driver to the HP Laserjet 5000 PCL (not PCL6) it prints text and pictures well. (I used the USB port, but assume it will work with LPT1 as well).
Again, be sure to up the memory to the actual memory you have. (RIght click the printer, choose properties and go to Device Settings) The Laserjet 5000 goes up to 100MB. I just have the basic 16 in the printer, but it has the option for 16MB, unlike the Lexmark I posted earlier.

I currently have my 1700 working under XP x64 setup as a Lexmark Optra E312L, it works ok on graphics, but does test perfectly. It doesn't have the toner low indication, etc. But works well as a basic driver.
See microsofts website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895612 for more info. I just installed it, will probably look for a better driver. But if you need to print it can be done.
Be sure to up the installed memory on the properties page, as the lexmark shipped with only 2MB.

I find it very irritating that I have 2 1700n's that I can not print to from my new Dell 64-bit machine. My other non-Dell printers, some over 4 years old, all had 64-bit drivers that I could download.

It is certainly the last (and only) time I'll be buying a printer from Dell.

I really wanted a one-click install that sorted things out, and instead, after a lot of playing around I never got to the level of functionality I had previously. I ended up putting the printer on another 32-bit box.
All in all I'm left less than impressed with Mr Dell's printer division. And, considering it is a rebadged Lexmark and Lexmark seem to have risen to the challenge of compiling 64-bit drivers I'm surprised that Dell have failed on this one.
