cannot connect Dell 1320c to network

I am having issues connecting my 1320c directly to the network. It is currently hooked directly to my netgear WNDR4000 router  through a ethernet cable, but I am unable to see the printer on my devices list on the router.

The printer connects fine and prints when hooked directly to my computer through USB,

any advice on what needs to be done to be able to see my printer and be able to print with it on the network?

it seams that I was unaware that my model had a external network adapter that I needed to install to allow the router to see the printer (found it when searching for the install CD)

But my problems are not solved completely. There is a issue installing the drivers for the printer...

on any dell or alienware the printer installs normally. But any none dell machine (in this case a custom built xp desktop, and a toshiba windows 7 labtop) the printers drivers will not install from the CD or download from the dell driver download. Any way to bypass this or will this printer on work on Dells?

The first thing to check - do you have the optional ethernet card for this unit?

The earlier models had an ethernet card as an option - this is frustrating!

If you are unsure, print a settings report (Press and hold the Continue button down for several seconds.) and look under installed options on this report to see if there is a ethernet card listed. You can also view the current IP address that the pritner is receiving on the network settings report; Menu > System Setup > Reports > Network Info.

Best of luck,

Yes it does have the ethernet card, at first I did not know that it was external though until i found it when searching through my installation CDs. The printer now connects fine to almost every computer in the house but one.

The last computer is a Toshiba laptop running windows 7. the disc does not run on windows 7 for some reason and the drivers from Dells website do not install all the way but rather lock up half way through installing.  But this computer sees the printer on the network.

The only other computer in the house with windows 7 on it is an alienware which had the dell drivers installed already.
