communication error with 942 printer

I've recently encountered a communication error with my 942 printer that I cannot rectify. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software, drivers and ports, (all numerous times) and still cannot clear the communication error. I have a Dimensions 4700 operating on Windows XP. I have downloaded  the newest driver software from the Dell site and the Windows site. I have also tried downloading from the original CD provided with my 942 printer. Any other ideas on how I can re-establish printer communication?

to do a clean install of the printer (with the use of either downloaded driver or printer cd):

- uninstall the printer driver (make sure that the printer's usb cable is unplugged) [when it asks you to restart the computer, select 'no']
- go to My Computer -> Local Disk C: -> Windows (folder) -> System32 -> SPOOL -> Drivers
- rename w32x86 folder to 'backup'
- go back to the previous page (you'll usually see Drivers, Printers, PrtProcs)
- go to prtprocs and rename the w32x86 folder to 'backup'
- restart the computer

- after restart, run the installer.. (during the installation, it will prompt you to connect the printer and that's the only time that you'll reconnect it back)

============

if in case you've done all of these (most likely the printer will print the test page but not your usual documents).. that way, it's with the firewall.. (norton/mcafee have their own firewall permissions) and you can try disabling those, just to isolate the problem.. after disabling that, restart the computer then try printing again. =)

Thank you very much for the response. I think my problem is almost solved. Now, when I go to print, I get an error message saying that there is a problem with 'dlbujswx.exe'. But, when I close this error message, my job starts to print successfully. Just wondering if you know how to solve this error. Thank you.

hmm.. were there any errors during installation?

you can try reinstalling the software for the last time because usually for those types of errors, reinstalling will fix those.. :smileywink:

Shaela,

I thought I would come back to the "well" one more time since you have been so helpful.

My printer is now officially working fine without the error message. However, I can not use the fax or scan functions. Nothing at all happens when I try use these functions. I get an error message on my printer's screen that says "The All In One did not respond....please check for messages on your computer screen"

Help?? thanks
