JeyF,

Restart the computer, Let it connect to the internet. After 2 minutes, then try to get the application list.

Using a Windows 7 system?

Hi Rick -  I have shut down and restarted both the printer and the computer 3 days in a row to try to get this to work.  I also ran a diagnosis scan from dell and everything passed, finding no problems.  Yes, Windows 7.

JeyF,

Windows 7 had issues when Microsoft installed Internet Explorer 11. It has caused documents to print, then the rest of the print job(s) remained in the print queue until you restarted the computer. We were told 2 solutions listed below. I suspect it also causes problems with scanning. I restart my computer, let it connect and wait 2 minutes to scan from my Dell V Series printer to my computer. Firewalls can cause a problem but not as likely as the Internet Explorer issue.

This is related to the IE11 and balloon tips issue.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

The other option is to turn off the balloon tips for the printer.

Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.

Rick~ Thanks for your replies.  You don't know how badly I wish I could say you were spot on. Unfortunately, neither of the solutions worked for me. I uninstalled IE11 and restarted the computer.  It still was not able to retrieve the application list. So then I tried turning off the balloon tips as well, to no avail.  I don't know if I should keep fighting the good fight, or throw the towel in and accept that I won't be able to scan to computer again.

JeyF,

Remove all the computer from the printer...

Removing computers from printer scan list

When you restart the computer, the computer should be listed on the printer.
