problem faxing dellA940 AOL DSL

I am having a problem faxing.  I have done all the troubleshooting.  Communicated with  CTS_Peripheral_Support@dell.com also by phone.  Talked with AOL DSL tech service also.  I have a dell DIM2350 256 MB.

Dell BCMV.92 56K modem attached to COM3.  It also shows I have a communications cable between 2 computers COM  1.  I only have one computer. What is this?

Went through Modem helper.  Have dial tone.

AOL told me to do the following: The phone line supplied from jAOL goes from phone jack  in wall to DSL modem. Connect my phone line with adapter provided  to phone line port in tower. Then Phone linefrom DSL with adapter provided to other phone port in tower.

Dell All in one printer A940 only has a line to plug into power outlet and one that runs to tower.

I was able to fax before AOL DSL, but each is now saying it is the others problem Dell vs AOL DSL

Thank you for any advise you might have that would help me solve this problem

You should have a phone line that goes from the wall outlet to the DSL modem.  There should be a network cable that goes to a router or the network connection on the back of your computer.  Note: this could also be a USB cable that goes from the DSL modem to the USB port on your computer.  You should also have a phone line that goes from the wall outlet or splitter through an adapter (POTS filter) to your modem's phone port on the back of your computer.  If your modem has 2 ports, plug the phone line into the one marked "line" or "Telco".  Some modems are picky about this.
