replace toner
I have replaced my black toner with a new Dell cartridge and it still says to replace toner. (3100cn) is there some way to reset it. I have taken it out and tried to reset it several times to no avail

I've experienced the same thing, im certain that it is a CHIP problem which i know that is unfixable because i called dell customer service and have gone through that pain staking customer service process, they sa then at the end they said they wont fix it. what i did was bought 1815 reman toner off this website called toner boss dot com for 75 percent off the msrp. Their products never gave me problems at all since then ive been getting all my dell color toners and mono toners from them. give em a shot

The toner level is stored on the cartridge. The printer reads this from the cartridge. You cannot "reset" this.
Either the toner has the wrong level on it, perhaps it was refilled and the counter not reset. Or the printer is reading it wrong.
Try another toner.
Most likely you have a faulty toner. Dell technical support on the phone will be able to replace faulty toners no problems.
