scan 1600n Scanning Problems / Install
Hi,
I just installed 7 Dell 1600n printers. All are installed with the USB drivers (complete paperport) and tcp/ip drivers on Windows XP Pro machines (multiple locations). Anyway, the scanner portion shows up in the my computer section (the WIA) driver. I'm having problems with the Twain driver. If I click on the Dell Scan Center and try to scan, I get the message "Unable to communicate with the Twain Device". If I press the "Scan" button on the unit with paper in the document feeder it will scan 1 page and 1 page only. I have un-installed and reinstalled the complete package numerous times and no dice. When I go into a program and use the "import" function it lists the WIA driver and what I presume is the twain driver but in both cases, I end up with a warning message that something is wrong with the device.
I've contacted Dell Tech Support and so far they seem clueless, so.
1. Does anyone have the scanning functioning properly on XP Pro?
2. Can you scan multiple pages through the ADF?
3. Any suggestions?
Thanks again,
Carl

d3sp,
Thanks but I already knew it would scan only locally. The problem is that you have an ADF that only scans one sheet! That is what's totally unacceptable. Why would you bother having an Automatic Document Feeder at all, if the document feeder could'nt handle more then the platten!
Thanks,
Carl

This seems to be a problem only with Dell's WIA scan driver.
I have finally figured out that I can scan multiple page documents from either the PaperPort software (which comes with the printer) or from Adobe Acrobat software by selecting the TWAIN driver. However, the scan button on the operator panel uses the WIA driver, regardless of which software I select. I cannot figure out any way to change the default on the panel to use the TWAIN driver or to change the WIA driver to scan multiple page documents.

RemoteScan will solve the multiple issues and scanning over the network issues. It's cheap too.
