v305 setup disk - problem entering WEP key

Hi All

Until recently I didn't use the v305 that I bought as a bit of an impulse purchase a year or so back.  But moving into a new place makes it sensible to use a wireless printer, so that's what I tried to do.  I set up my v305 with the installation disk, and connected the USB cable when requested but when it came to enter the WEP key for my O2 network I hit a problem.  I know the WEP key is the correct one because my HP laptop connects wirelessly without a hitch when I enter the key as a check.  But every time I enter the WEP key in the v305 setup routine I get the same error message:  my WEP key is not a proper WEP format because the key I entered was *******65Càu.  But I entered only *******65C.  The extra two characters that appear at the end - àu - were not entered by me.

The extra two characters do not appear in the text box used to enter the key, only in the error message telling me that a WEP key has10 characters (and *******65Càu of course has 12 characters).

I am running Vista Home Premium on a new-ish HP laptop.  What am I doing wrong?  All help gratefully received.  I had a quick trawl through the FAQs and archive but could not find this issue.

The printer works fine when using the USB cable.

Many thanks

Mikef

Mikef,

I have seen this before with the Dell wireless print adapter 3300. Try setting up the printer to the neighbors network. Of course it won't connect. Then setup the printer for your network and enter the correct key and it should take the password.

I really recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.

Password should be 13 characters long.

Hi Rick

Many thanks for that.  I'll give it a try.  I'm using channel 11 but am quite keen to keep my existing 10 character WEP key as it's one I have actually memorised!

Regards

Mikef
