Copying text from web page

Have just upgraded my computer & moved onto XP & WORD 2003(In Office).

I find that most of the time I cannot copy text from the web into WORD. When I click "paste" I get the dreaded "hourglass". I have managed to do it successfully but only once or twice. Why is this? I never had problems with WIN 98 SE and Word 2000

Try opening Word first, then do a Copy & Paste.

Try using Edit, Paste Special and choose formatted text. What you're doing is trying to paste HTML format, and this may be a problem.

I don't have any problems with Word 2002 SP3. I can select any text on web page, right click, copy, then open Word. click paste. Depending on how the text is placed on the web page, I might just get the text, or a Table with it in, i.e. the format is preserved. If I copy a link, it is active in Word also. Pictures also copy normally. No difference whether Word is already open or not.

Thanks very much, you have solved my problem.

Is there any way to make the formatted option the default rather than go via paste special?
