owainty,

You can uninstall DellOSD from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.
  1. On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:
  • Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall a Program.
  • Windows XP: Click Add or Remove Programs.
  • When you find the program DellOSD, click it, and then do one of the following:
  • Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall.
  • Windows XP: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program).
  • Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove DellOSD.

DellOSDservice For Princeville is causing the same utilization problem on my XPS 2710, and I appreciate your instructions on how to remove it.

Would you please explain what function DellOSD performs, so that I can assess the impact of removing it?

RobertRowland,

On-Screen Display (OSD)

The OSD controls = Volume, Brightness, Mute, CD Eject, Cap Lock, Num Lock, WiFi, Input Source. All functions you could control without the usage of the OSD. Take a look at the online manual on page 115 for more information on the OSD.

XPS 2720 Online Manual

To disable the OSD you can go to start - run- and type in MSCONFIG. Look in the startup tab or in the services tab to locate it.

Jesse L,

Thank you very much for the explanation and alternate solution to my DellOSDService problem.

I was able to "reset" DellOSDService by stopping and restarting the associated Dell WMI service in Task Manager.  This seems to have corrected its excessive CPU utilization.  If the problem returns, I will try the solutions which you suggested.

Thanks again.
