Delldock cpu usage
I noticed that DellDock is using about 4-6% of my CPU resources - seems high for such a simple app. I would assume it should use none when it is running in the background as it seems only to be a program launcher.
Is this usage normal?
Thanks

Whilst it is primarily a program launcher TedT, it is itself a program, and for that reason - 4-6% is not uncommon :emotion-5:

Well, I have 2 other Dell laptops that show 0% and also have found a listing online that says this app normally uses 0% cpu time.
Though it is an app, it does not do anything until it is mouse clicked - unlike the sidebar that has little apps running and contacting the internet, I see no reason for Dell Dock to use any cpu time until used. Having done progrmming in the past this makes sense to me. Also, 5% continuous CPU time for a dualcore CPU is a lot, my sidebar with closcks, timers, weather, stocks etc all running, uses about he same - so this makes no sense to me. What is ell Dock exactly doing? I have looked at the processes but can't tell what it is.
So my next question is are there any viruses that work through Dell Dock? Also I had Stardock installed and removed it - anythign left over that might be running inthe background?
Thanks
Ted

I've actually noticed the same thing. My Delldock will usually run at 0% cpu use. Lately, however, it's been absorbing 6-10%, even when doing nothing at all. If I close and then reopen it, it'll return to 0% use for a while (2-10 minutes). And then jump back to 6-10%, regardless of whether I've used it or not.
I love the Delldock, but mine's currently off until I either find what's causing it, or an update fixes it.

I read about some issues with the Nvidia drivers, so I reinstalled the last version of the driver supplied by Dell (the version I had was later, no idea where I got it from). When I restarted the computer and DellDock, success! Dell Dock at 0%. Then I read your post and waited. Within 20 minutes it is up to 4% CPU. All very strange. I see absolultely no reason why it should be doing anything until it is called upon by the operating system via user interaction. I have looked at all the threads it is runnign and searched most of them for CPU useage - and generally it is a video driver issue.
Anyway, maybe Dell will find an issue. I am running Vista 32bit by the way.

I assume you guys are all running laptops. Why do I see Delldock.exe CPU usage like you have described on my XPS tower? It will never use a docking station:emotion-43:

I have just built my new dell Laptop today and I found Delldock also using 4 to 15 % - very odd. I changed the settings so that the dock would hide when not in use and only come back when the mouse approaches the edge of the screen. CPU usage now 0% unless I go tothe edge and bring it forward. - Result still have the functionality woithout the excess cpu usage.

Hi TedT, I know this thread is old now, but I had the same problem on my new Studio 15, except ot was running at around 15-20%! I found that auto-hiding it didn't change anything, but turning off the colour transperency worked a treat.
-Edit: I stand corrected, it hasn't solved the problem after all.

Hi, I solved the problem of Audiodg.exe process and thus also the problem of Delldock!
Solution Audiodg.exe and hence the Delldock here:
http://technicallyeasy.net/2009/03/fix-audiodgexe-high-cpu-usage/
or here:
http://benosullivan.co.uk/windows/fix-high-cpu-usage-audiodg-exe-in-windows-7-and-vista/
bye!
----
Edit: The solution was temporary and the Dell Dock continues to consume 11% of the processor. :(

Hi,
I also have problem with constant DellDock CPU usage. It used to be about 10% on Vista 64 bit, on 7 64 bit is it about 5-6%. The CPU usage can be temporarily solved by switching the touch mode on and off, or repositioning the dock, but after while, the CPU usage is always back.
I tried to ask on Stardock forums too, but no one seems to have a solution for this problem. :(

POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
Right click on delldock.exe process in Task Manager, go to Compatibility tab and check Disable visual themes and Disable desktop composition.
This seems to work for me, since I enabled these settings, the Dock is using 0-1% CPU. :emotion-11:
