Excel is selecting cells when I move my mouse

If I click on a cell, then from that point on, Excel highlights the cells I move over as if I am continuing to hold down the left moust buttons.

Any ideas why and how to stop it?

Thank You,

Does this happen in every spreadsheet? If not, try pressing escape in the problem document. I have known this to happen when the program is in the process of selecting an area to be calculated in a formula, even though it does not appear to be doing so.

If this does not help, we can try resetting Excel, by deleting the Excel key in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Going into the registry and performing the wrong STEPS can cause permanent damage to the computer. The process is safe if the instructions are followed exactly. If you do not feel comfortable following the steps in this forum, then call Dell Software Support at 1-800-433-9005

· Verify that all programs are closed
· Click Start – Run
· In the Open field type “regedit” without the quotation marks. Press OK.
· You should have a window appear on your computer called Registry Editor. FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING STEPS CAREFULLY. (NOTE: This registry fix applies to Excel 2000 only)
· Click the + (plus) once for each of the following Keys (NOTE: Each Key is separated by the \ symbol)
· HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0
· THE NEXT STEP INVOLVES DELETING TWO KEYS (folders) FROM THE REGISTRY. BE SURE WHEN YOU RIGHT CLICK ON THE KEY THAT IT HIGHLIGHTS. THIS CONFIRMS THAT YOU ARE DELETING THE CORRECT KEY
· Right click on the Excel folder, choose delete (confirm the delete)
· Close the registry by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner or by Clicking Registry on the menu bar and choosing Exit.
Check to see if Excel is functioning properly.
