MailMsgAtt program is reported as missing within Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
Software pre-installed by Dell on new Dell Inspiron PC:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit & Office Basic 2007 + Office 2007 SP2 and all latest updates.
In Outlook 2007 can create Contacts and on Insert tab use Attach Item and
select Insert as Shortcut and choose any Mail or Contact item to insert icon
Double-left-click on this inserted icon to open attached item often gives this error
"The program used to create this object is MailMsgAtt. That program is not
installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program
that can open the object."
Sometimes, immediately after creating a shortcut icon, and while target item is still open, the problem does not occur. However, if all items and Outlook are closed and then re-opened the problem always gets reported.
A similar problem is reported as resolved by Microsoft in Outlook 2007 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: January 28, 2008. But I have Office 2007 Service Pack 2 installed, which should include this fix.
This shorcut function used to work on earlier version of Outlook.
