How to Update System Config at Dell Support
I bought a Studio 1537 with Windows Vista-64 in March 2009. I just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate-64. I bought the Windows upgrade direct from Microsoft, not Dell. How can I get my system configuration updated at dell support so that the drivers etc. recommended are appropriate?
I've triedusing the current configuration tab at System Configuration, but all I get is a message stating: "Downloading/Verifying Plug In", but nothing productive happens. Thanks.

There's no way to do that (even if you had bought Windows 7 from Dell). The configuration based on the Service Tag is referenced to how the PC was configured at manufacture and shipped to the customer. Any updates, whether the customer or Dell, will not be reflected in the Service Tag listing.
You will have to access the downloads using the PC model number and select the applicable drivers for your specific hardware. HERE is the Vista 64 bit drivers for your model. There are no Windows 7 drivers listed (although Vista should work).
