Issue with Page Dn in Excel

I posted this on the First Time Users forum (being a first time user) and it was recommended that I post it here instead.

This just started (have had the laptop 3 years).  When I scoll up and down through an Excel spread sheet using the PageUp and PageDn keys, each time I hit the PageDn key besides going down a page it also leaves the letter 'a' in the receiving cell.  So, in the page I have open now, if I start in cell a1, hit the PageDn key it goes down to cell a26 and departs an 'a' in the cell.

Additionally I used to be able to hold down the PageDn key and have it rapidly scroll down the spreadsheet, but now when it is depressed it only goes down one page.  So if I want to go down several hundred rows I need to rapidly depress the PageDn key.  I can still hold down the PageUp to rapidly scroll up though.

So, I'm not sure whether this is a software or keyboard issue.

Thanks

Several thoughts:

If it were a keyboard problem, you would get the same thing in Word.

Does the "a" turn to an uppercase "A" if you put on Caps Lock?

If you place another letter, say b, in what would be the receiving cell, does the "a" overwrite it?

When you select one of the cells with the "a" in it, what does the formula bar say?

Which version of Excel is it?

Have you considered uninstalling and re-installing Excel?

Good points Delierious;
I checked Word, and it does the same thing there.
With caps lock on the "a" becomes "A".
It overwrites anything in the receiving cell.
The formula bar shows an "a" just the same as if I 'intentionally' typed it.
I believe the answer to the 'version' question is that it is "Part of the Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003".
And, based on the fact that it does the same thing in Word it sounds like a keyboard issue and not an Excel issue...so no, I have not attempted to re-install Excel.

Since it is under warranty it sounds like I should therefore contact Dell.

Thanks

Let us know what happens with Dell. I suspect that they will, at first, ask you to go to Device Manager and remove the keyboard drivers, re-boot and let Windows find them again. There is a slim chance that it is a driver problem.

I do not use Excel regularly on this computure, so it may be a while before I attempt to tackle Dell as for now the issue is more a nuisance than a 'problem'...but I will followup, when I followup.

Thanks
