MS Word Not Enough Memory Error
Hi,
I run a Latitude C400 with Windows 2K Pro and two sticks of memory 512 and 256. Everything runs fine except Word. The error message "Not enough memory or disk space to complete this operation" comes up when I try to use most items on the Format and Tools Menus. This error also comes up when I try to print.
I believe I have enough memory. All my memory is shown when I check the properties of "My Computer". I have run CC Cleaner and defragged my hard drive. I have run a registry cleaner. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled MS Office. I have tried the MS Office Repair option before trying the uninstall/reinstall.
My dad has an old MS Word, maybe 95 or 98. I noticed this problem first after transferring one of his files to my machine. I am not sure if there is any connection to my problem though.

Go to Start|Run, enter %userprofile%\application data\microsoft\templates and click OK. Right-click and delete the normal.dot file that is found. Restart Word and it will generate a new normal template and your problem should be resolved.

Augie,
Thank you for your help also. I did indeed follow Denny's instructions before, even though my follow up might have not made that clear. You gave me a good idea in that I had not run a search for all the Normal.dot on my laptop. The search found one more that I did not know about. I did not check where it was hiding, but I deleted all the found Normal.dot found, then rebooted.
No Luck. I then followed Denny's instructions again, just to be sure.
No Luck.
It really does seem to be connected to a Normal.dot issue, as the Normal.dot that Windows replaces in the Template Folder seems to work fine, disproving a memory problem.
Some further thoughts, Anyone?

Click Start, Run, and type the following:
winword /a
Than click OK. Does Word allow you to use the menus?
******
There is a space before the /a

The /a switch prevents Word from loading any templates. So, you must determine which template is causing the error.
Start Word normally. Go to Tools, Templates and Add-ins and see what templates are loading. You'll then have to remove the templates one at a time until the problem is gone.

Abach,
Thank you for your help. Yes it does allow use of menus, a good sign, yes?
What are you running with that input? What is your query/solution hypothesis?

Abach,
Here are the observations:
When I go open Word from the Programs Menu, I can go to Templates and Add Ins. That box shows Normal in the Document Template. There are no templates listed in the Global Templates window. So I cannot take out any template other than the Normal template which I have tried, I think, by following Denny's instructions.
incidentally, Word opened as above with a none working doc already opened shows the error message and disallows getting to Templates Add-Ins. A doc created by a right click menu opens a errored doc, if you had not tha info. Also, once I save the error free doc, close it, and open it again...the dreaded error appears.

regedit
and click OK. Find the following key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word
Delete the Data and Options keys
Restart Word. Does this solve the problem?

Abach,
I am studying up on regisrt editing. I think I need to back up my registry somehow before I change it.
Also, I see I only have 8.0 and 9.0 in my registry directory... no 11.0.
The 8.0\Word\ ....there is only a Data key.
The 9.0\Word... has both a Data key and an Option key
Which do you want me to delete?
