MS Works Suite 2005
A few weeks ago I hooked up a new printer (HP 5280 Printer/Scanner/Copier). Everything came through good except it seems to have ruined all the programs in MS Works Suite (2005). I can open any of these programs but the moment I try and do something it gums up and I get a "not responding" message. I wrote to Microsoft but they said because this software was no longer under warranty AND because it came already installed when I received my computer, I had to come to DELL. My idea was to remove all the programs of MS Works through Control Panel and then re-install them one by one from the 5 discs that came with my computer. Does anyone have any better ideas or can give me some advice on the matter? I have Windows XP (Home Edition). In the past each time I've called DELL for assistance, and they are unsure how to help me, they tell me to wipe out my entire hard drive and re-install everything including the XP operating system. I'm hoping one of you experts out there can give me "realistic" help. I really need some of the programs on MS Works Suite 2005. Please help me. I'm not sure who else to turn to for help.
They include: Disc 1) MS Works Suite 2005 Setup, MS Works 8, MS Word 2002, MS Works Clipart, Disc 2) MS Picture It! Premium 10, MS Money Standard 2005, Disc 3) MS Encarta Encyclopedia Standard 2005, Disc 4) MS Streets & Trips 2005 Installation, MS Pocket Streets Pocket PC, MS Pocket Streets for Smartphone, Disc 5) MS Streets & Trips 2005 Run.
AND please keep it simple. I know computer basics but I am FAR from an expert.
Thanks a heap.
Sincerely, Maidryn

Since, by your description, all of the WorksSuite programs are corrupted, an uninstall/reinstall would probably be the best choice at this point.
1. Uninstall the WorksSuite and all the WorkSuite applications in the Control Panel Add/Remove software (there may be just the WorksSuite program listing to uninstall or there may be multiple listings for each individual application).
2. Restart the PC (very important do not skip this step)
3. Reinstall the WorksSuite and all applications. Start With the Disk 1 (Setup) and it will prompt if it wants one of the other CD's.
4. Restart the PC after all of the WorksSuite is installed (if it doesn't prompt you to restart).

God bless you, Fireberd!
At this point I haven't tried your advice yet and I don't know if it will work BUT I have been racing around following the proverbial "buck" as it has "been passed" that I think I now know how a dog feels when it's been chasing it's tail for too long.
A thousand thousand Bless-you's... Oh, and did I mention, BLESS YOU.
And a little bit of a "thank you" for taking the time to answer me with a suggestion and spreading some Hope into my life.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

So, here's how things panned out for me with my MS Works Suite problem (with guidance from Fireberd).
I went to Control Panel and clicked Add/Remove programs. When the list was compiled I went down and found one called, "MS Works 2005 Setup Launcher". It seemed like a good place to start removing programs. Well, low and behold, it brought up a screen with a list of the programs from MS Works Suite that are installed on my computer. It asked me to check off the boxes of the programs I wished to 'alter'. I ticked off all the boxes and hit NEXT. Then it took me to the Windows Installer program/window where each program was removed one by one. Then, when it was done, I clicked on FINISH. I followed Fireberd's advice and closed any open programs and then did a computer RESTART. Then... Zipadee-doo-da, you would not believe how fast my computer booted up. Then I went into Control Program (Zowee-Fast), looked at the list of programs (Yowza-Fast-again) and all the programs from MS Works Suite were gone. AND then I started thinking. Hmmmm. I never really have gotten the hang of MS Word. I rarely use any of the programs in MS Works at all and I loooove having my programs responding so quickly. The articles in Encarta are very superficial (I can get better info by visiting WIKIpedia), Wordpad has "taken over" all my documents that were previously MS Word documents. All my pictures are fine. The rest of my programs respond at least twice as fast. So, to make a long story even longer... I didn't re-install any of the MS Works Suite programs. At this point I am a very happy camper:smileyvery-happy:. All the trouble began when I hooked up my HP C5280 All-in-One printer and it DID NOT like interacting with my MS Works Suite2005. So now the programs from the two companies (HP & MS) are no longer using my hard drive as their battle field:smileymad:. Hope this info helps someone and once again "thanks" to the "Berd-Man". You saved the day. Caw Caw.
