Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 Installation Problem on Windows Vista Home Premium

I need help very bad. Please help me anybody!

My Machine: XPS 720, QX6700, 2GB 800 RAM, 8800GTX with Vista Home Premium

I have not been able to install Office Enterprise 2007 on my XPS machine. I get the "Office Enterprise 2007 encountered an error" error message.

Here is the full story:

1) I get FREE Enterprise from my University and downloaded it and then started installing it some time back
2) While it was almost finishing up the installation, there was a power black out all of a sudden and the computer restarted
3) Now, when I reinstalled it, it shows the progress meter moving forward for just a little bit and then it starts retracting (similar to what happend when u rollbacks a software/device driver) after which I get the above error message
4) I kept trying it multiple times to reinstall it but failed. I even downloaded a trial copy and get the same error
5) So I came to the conclusion that somehow my registry keys for Office has been corrupted and I would need to uninstall all or remove the previous erroneous installation manually
6) Soon, I found this article to manually uninstall Office 2007 as I was not able to do it using Add/Remove programs feature and followed the steps strictly but FAILED :smileysad: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218
7) I also tried using various registry cleaners in hopes that somehow they would clean up the registry but FAILED again
8) I also tried disabling all 3rd party service, antivirus software, restarting my pc and then reinstalling Office 2007 but FAILED miserably again.

Please help me! It is so important to have Office 2007 so that I can start working from my Home rather than going to the library. I really do not know why Office 2007 won't install on my PC. The same installation ran fine on my friends XP PC with no problems.

~SIGH~ :smileymad:

Yes I run the install as an administrator. The manual removla doenst generate any message as all it is is deleted some directories, some specific registry keys and all that. I followed these steps strictly, restarted the pc and tried to reinstall. but .... it fails again. I think there is something which is preventing the install from progressing. For that, I guess you need to know the exact error number which is not the case here. All you get is an error message repeatedly.

If you can't remove it by following the steps in KB928218, then I don't know what to suggest. Previous versions of Office could be removed by using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but the documentation for this tool specifically says that this can NOT be used with Office 2007.

What error are you getting when you follow the procedure?

At what point in the manual removal are you receiving this message? I assume that you are running from an administrator account.

Well, the only other thing I can suggest is a System Restore to a point prior to the initial failed installation. If this doesn't work, you may have to contact Microsoft.

You may want to try CCleaner, available free << here >>. Use the Tools task, choose Office 2007 and click Run Uninstaller

This has worked for me in the past. If it doesn't work, let me know.

Do you have Ofice 2003 installed? Vista can't install Office 2007 if Office 2003 is already there. I had the same problem until I got rid of Office 2003 and then installed 2007.

Ok I am still unable to install Office 2007. But, I just installed Office 2003 successfully. and now the weird part. Windows detects Office 2007 Sp1 Update to be installed in the windows update even when it isn't installed. Any wonder why? I will try the cleaner software now. Will let you know.

mwfanelli3,

You are absolutely INCORRECT! Multiple versions of Office can be installed quite successfully on Vista or on XP.

Do you have Roxio Creator 9 installed? If so download Roxio Creator LE Vista - 117725 released on 1-11-2008 from the Dell site and then try installing Office 2007. Some people have experience problems with Office 2007 not wanting to install with Roxio Creator 9 on the machine. This may explain why you were able to install Office 2003.

Sorry Rebel9, you are wrong. I was listening to the call on speakerphone to Microsoft as the software tech was trying to install Office 2007 when 2003 was already there. Microsoft's answer, for Vista, was to uninstall 2003, install 2007, and then reinstall 2003. That works very well, not only on my own laptop but on EVERY Vista machine they were having trouble with.

As far as I know, XP does not have the same problem.

No mwfanelli3, I'm afraid I'm not wrong. I have multiple versions of Office installed and running properly on several Vista machines. All were installed in order from Oldest to Newest as per the specific instructions published in MSKB 928091.

As per that article, "You must install the earliest version of Office first. For example, if you want to use both Office 2003 and 2007 Office programs on the same computer, install Office 2003 first. You must use this order because of the way in which registry keys, shared programs, file name extensions, and other settings are managed for each version of the Office suites and programs."

I find it very hard to imagine that any Microsoft tech would advise you to do the exact opposite. Perhaps your speakerphone was experiencing "technical difficulties" during that particular conversation? :smileywink:

Yes, I did try that but that doesn't work. I got my office 2003 working as of now but dunno if I would ever ve able to install 2007 unless microsoft releases its office cleaner utility for office 2007.
