Outlook 2002- Error Message "The operation failed. An object could not be found."

Does anyone know how to correct this error message when using Outlook 2002.  I just got the Axim x3 and need to use Outlook 2002.  This software came with the Axim.  I have RR and when I called them they do not support anything but Outlook Express and say I am out of luck with them.  So hopefully someone out there will not how to correct this.

Thanks

I use Outlook with RR, so it is possible. You have to set it up correctly first. Try Importing your Mail Account Settings from OE into Outlook. Then check them in Tools, Accounts. Set it up as a LAN account, no SPA in connections, with correct server settings. You should leave a copy of messages on the server so you can retrieve mail from your other computer and also set OE to leave on server if you use both programs. Delete messages after ? days so server doesn't get clogged.

I double checked the settings and they are correct.  I went through every with a Dell rep over the phone and was still unable to use Outlook 2002.  I don't want to continue using OE so I would like to be able to get rid of it all together so I can sync everything with my new Axim X3 that I just got.  Any other ideas?

Outlook Express is a part of Windows and you cannot get rid of it. You just don't have to use it. However, since you have trouble with Outlook, make sure Outlook Express is still set up properly. Just don't pick it as your default email. And Outlook must be set up correctly on the main computer first to sync with your new handheld.

Generally, the error message that you have described indicates a problem with the profile established for Outlook and/or a corrupted .pst file.  Best fix is to delete the current profile by going to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Mail, Show Profiles.  Delete the profile currently in use and create a new one.  This will force Outlook to create a new .pst file and you should be in business.  If you have more than one profile already created you may simply need to tell Outlook which one is the one to use when it starts up using the Profile Manager.  Hope this helps.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I've been trying for 2 weeks to get Outlook 2002 past this same error message. My ISP was stumped. I tried everything I knew, including deleting and reintalling Outlook. Nothing. On an offchange, I googled the error message, got this site, delted the profile, and everything works. All is now right with the world. After two weeks, the solution took two minutes.

Thanks, thanks, thanks.

After many attempts to Dell's "Outstanding Service Department" and being told since I had my machine for 40 days instead of the 30 days that service is covered for I returned everything to Dell and am now buying a Gateway.  Maybe they will have better support for what they sell unlike Dell.

I am glad to be rid of this whole thing since they cannot help at all!

Dear flyfishermann,

I have the same challenge with Outlook 2002. When I try to send or receive, I get a the message "An operation failed. An object could not be found".  I have been working on this for 6 weeks.

Thanks, flyfsr

Thank you  very much flyfisherman.  You are God.  I just received my Dell 2 days ago and was having the same problem with Outlook 2003.  I spent 3 hours in chat with Earthlink, 2 hours searching Micorsoft.com, and an hour on the phone with Dell.  No one could help me.  Your solution worked. Thanks again.
