Reinstalling Windows XP

Can someone help me with this please?  I have a Dimension 2350 and awhile back I had tons of trouble with my pc for some unknown (to me) reason,  I finally have most of the junk off it,  but when I tried to check to see if I had IE downloaded it says I have Version 6,  BUT,  it also says I have IEXPLORE.EXE missing.  My question is this:  I put in the CD I received with my pc and when it came time to put in my Product Key # I had 26 numbers and letters instead of 25, I know I wrote this down from somewhere,  can someone help me locate it.  I have all my sales papers and my cd's and book together, but nowhere can I find this number so I can proceed with the reinstallation.  I also wanted to know if I have to do anything with my highspeed after it's reinstalled or will it just pick up.  Thanks in advance!

The should be (or was) a tag on your PC with the Operating system Key.  check the PC and see if you can find it.  I'm not sure where it was originally located on your model PC, but check the front, back and possibly a side for the sticker.   When you do find it, make sure you enter it correctly, some have had problems differentiating between the letter "O" and the number "0" and/or the letter "L" and the number "1".

BTW, your post should have been in the Windows XP section of the forum.  This section is for Microsoft Office application issues.

hi JeanneGJ ..

your system was shipped w/ an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Operating system cd..Make sure that you use it because that cd will not asked you any product key while installing.

anyways you can use the generic product key:

JKTVX-HCRXC-J2YC9-MX3K4-G9X26

or

DR8GV-C8V6J-BYXHG-7PYJR-DB66Y.

for your second question.

you should install the drivers after Operating System re-installation.

that's your drivers and utilities cd ( Dell Dimension Resource CD).if in doubt call dell tech support..

have a nice one Ü

Thanks to fireberd and Richard,  I am sorry for posting on the wrong board,   you both were very gracious and answered me anyway and I appreciate it.  Just to let you know though that it was the operating system cd that came with the pc that I was using when it asked for the product #,  I will look further for it or use one of the ones you told me about.  What confused me was the number on the side of my pc is only 20 digits, but in any event I will take this over to the proper board and post this again.  Thanks again for being so nice.
