Studio 1569 System Recovery Options - Dell DataSafe Restore Question
I'm trying to restore my computer to factory. I tried running the Dell DataSafe Restore but I am having an issue. The Dell Datasafe Restore runs fine and completes with no problems. My issue is that after the restore is complete it asks for Username and password. This happens immediately after a screen that says, "Setup is preparing your computer for first use." But I never setup a User with a password. I have tried Administrator with no password and administrator as the password with no luck. Any suggestions as to what could be done? Is there a way to use command line to restore the laptop. Any help is much appreciated.

ctorres77,
When performing a Restore boot the system up and press the F8 key. From the options choose "Repair Your Computer" follow the prompts to restore the system to factory conditions.

sefanning,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Which program are you using to restore the system? Dell Datasafe Local Backup or Dell Datasafe Online? If you are wanting to restore the system to factory conditions you will need to boot the system up and press the F8 Key. Choose "Repair Your Computer" and follow the prompts. If not, you can reply back to me.

Jesse,
I am using the DataSafe Local Backup to try to restore to the factory condition. I have gone through he process doing the restore after pressing F8. The problems lies in that after the restore completes and the system reboots, I am asked for an id and password with the id defaulting to 'Administrator'. I never set up any id with a password and I cannot get beyond this screen. I believe the restore has completed but I just can't get in.
Thanks for your help

sefanning,
I found out that you will need to run this as an administrator. You can click the link below to see how to create an administrator account.
The password required is the Admin password for the system.
When trying to perform the factory restore from the desktop or from WinRE Inside
the desktop, you must be an Administrator to be able to perform the function.

Hi DELL-Jesse L,
I am having a similar situation to the original poster, but with a different machine, a Dell Inspiron M5010. I have used the Dell Datasafe Restore option to do a complete wipe and reimage to the factory image of the machine, NOT saving any information on the computer.
When the computer restarts, it says "setup is preparing your computer for first use" and then goes to a login screen asking for a User Name and a Password. There is no indication of what User Name and Password to be used. It seems as if someone has preloaded the image with an administrator user, but I have no idea what that would be.
I would think, that by restoring the machine to a factory setting, there should NOT be a need for a user and password at this point. That normally comes later in the setup process.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The machine is not usable until I can get past this issue.

I see this problem has not yet been resolved. Unfortunately I used Dell datasafe local backup to recover my grandson's notebook yesterday.
I am now being asked for a user name and password where as none was ever created. I cannot access the computer. Surely there was be some type of work around for this obvious glitch. It would be understandable if directions were given requiring the use of password before creating the datasafe local backup but this is not the case.

I think this is the best explanation of the problem that each person here is experiencing. I'm absolutely amazed that there hasn't been a support article to address this. I work in tech and know how to use password recovery tools to get past the fact that it asks for a user name and password. Unfortunately doing that only breaks the services that are trying to load with whatever account is being used on first boot. It's kinda silly considering that the admin and guest account are both disabled at this point. Can't imagine what account is being used. This is happening across models as I have an Inspiron 15 (n5010). This essentially forces you to buy a copy of windows 7 if you want to continue using this device as they have not made any physical media or support articles available to resolve this issue. I'll never buy another one Dell as this is something that should be resolved.

I just got bitten by this bug myself today. Grrr!!! Inspiron 620.
I am in the fortunate position to have a second identical Inspiron 620 that I can simply clone one drive to the other. (Which I will do as a last resort).
I am wondering if i make sure the Dell Local Data Safe software on the working 620 is up to date and I recreate new recovery DVDs, will the problem resolve itself?
Obviously, the DVDs I originally made and the recovery partition on the borked 620 contain this bug. Has Dell resolved this with an update? If I recreate the DVDs will it work? Anybody know?
Dell should be sending us working recovery media if not. I also have the option to restore from a Dell OEM Win 7 disc I have lying around, but that will not replace the software the is contained in the factory image.

Just wanted to report back that I created the recovery DVDs on my other still working 620 and they worked perfectly. I am not sure what that means. Maybe the other computer's recovery partition was updated by Dell to correct the problem? (I made sure it was update to date before burning the discs). Or maybe the bad computer's recovery partition was damaged? Not really sure. Odd that that it would exhibit exact same behavior as the OP if it were really a damaged recovery partition. (I wouldn't think it would have booted at all.)
