Style Separator/TOC Problem
I’m attempting to use the Style Separator in Word 2002 to generate a Table of Contents, but I’m encountering a problem. Here is an example of what I’m doing:
Section 1.01 (tab) The Merger. (style separator) (main text)
“Section 1.01 (tab) The Merger” is formatted with the Heading 2 Style which has been modified to include an Outline Numbered List (linked to levels). “Section 1.01 (tab)” automatically generates when calling up the Style (I believe it comes in as a field – its gray). “The Merger” is typed in the document manually. Both are formatted with the Heading 2 Style. “Main Text” is formatted with the Body Text Style. When I generate the Table of Contents, only “The Merger” is included. “Section 1.01 (tab)” is not included in the TOC.
From what I understand, the primary reason Microsoft added the Style Separator feature was to accommodate the needs of law firms in producing a Table of Contents in just this circumstance. So it’s hard to believe that this doesn’t work with paragraph leveling.
I’ve followed the few simple steps from the Microsoft website in attempting this.
I hope my explanation of the problem was at all clear. Any help would be appreciated.
