Transferring Outlook Data Base from Old Computer to a new Dell computer

I need to transfer my Outlook records (database?) which consists mainly of emails, from an old computer (with a hard drive that's failing and some indications of virus problems) to a new Dell computer I just bought. I also want to transfer the archived records to the new Dell. When completed I want to be able to run Outlook from the new Dell without skipping a beat or losing any emails. The old computer is running Win98 and Outlook 2000, and the new Dell is running Win XP and Office XP - Outlook 2002 which I've just loaded).  How do I do this without losing anything? Basic Questions that come to mind:

1) Is this a done using backup, export, save as (to new Dell machine), drag and drop?

2) What are ALL of the files that would need to be transferred and where exactly would they be stored/located on my C Drive on the old computer (Outlook files seem to be more difficult to identify/find than say excel files where I designate the storage location). I think I've found most files, I'm not sure if I've indentified ALL of the critical ones

The two machines are networked by the way so I would hope that once I've identified all of the appropriate files and transfer routine (copy, save as, drag & drop or whatever), that I can simply use the network connection to effect the transfer.

The Office Outlook emails, contacts, etc. are in a file called outlook.pst. In Windows98, I seem to remember that this was in Windows\Application data\Microsoft\Outlook, not sure, but search for *.pst. I think that archived emails would be stored in a separate file (probably archive.pst), but it would also have the .pst extension and be in the same folder on the old PC.

Copy or move the .pst file(s) to any suitable folder on the new PC (say a temp folder). On the new PC, open Outlook, File, import and export; in the box that opens select 'import from a program or file', click next; select 'personal folder file (.pst)', click next; browse to the folder where you put the pst files, select the file you want, click open, then just follow the instructions, setting options as you want. Repeat for the archive pst file (you need to import this first, so that Outlook on the new PC has the data; then you can recreate the archive file if you want, from File, Archive).

In Windows XP, the .pst files are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. However, you cannot just put the files from the old PC there, you have to import the data into Outlook as detailed above. Also, the local settings folder is hidden, so to see it in Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View tab, check 'show hidden files and folders'; also uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types', so you can see the .pst bit.
