Can ESRS be used in an Isolated 'air-gap' Network
Hi, Putting a bid together for a defense customer, who wants to have EMC arrays installed in an isolated 'air gapped' network. They obviously can not dial home or connect to the internet, but can ESRS be installed as a common means for logging all array errors, and manually interrogated by their own support staff as needed? Does the install process work without external access, and can the ESRS devices (arrays) be activated on ESRS without said external links?

Perhaps you are looking for an option other than ESRS to log array errors, like SNMP traps, or internal SMTP alerting from each device. The core ESRS software is downloaded from EMC through an Internet connection, so it will not install without that access. Maybe others have thoughts on this, though ESRS would not be applicable to this scenario.

Hi Martin,
ESRS is not a diagnostic tool, its simply a secure transport. i.e. ESRS sends encrypted files to EMC and only once they are received by EMC and the files are decrypted does a rules engine decide if a Service Request needs to be opened and assigned to a Support Tech. ESRS actually has no idea what it is transporting, it never looks into the files.
If you have a defensive customer and they are not going to allow anything in or out, then ESRS will not help you.
I know there were tools that EMC offer for onsite logging and diagnoses, so perhaps have a chat with your local EMC team about what options may work for you.
That or you are left per the reply from Ryan with SNMP trap or internal emails.
