is ESRS free and where can I download it?

hi, guys

we have VNX7500 storages. and I am wondering if there is a way to RDP to spa or spb , for example to verify if port 25 is open to the smtp relay server.....

and I heard ESRS(Secure Remote Support) is software for remote acccess to the SP/ CS.

if yes, that will be great!

my questions:

1) is this ESRS need addtional cost or license?

2) where can I download the pack?

3) do I need to install on control station or seperate box? linux box or windows box?

thanks very much in advance!!!

I’m not sure that I understand what you are trying to achieve. As far as I know there is no RDP option to an SP (in fact I’m fairly certain this is not possible), you need EMC tools and passwords which are only available to EMC CE’s. If you have installed the ESRS IP Client for VNX on the same network as the SP, you should be good to go, but you will need to open ports from the ESRS IP Client pc to the internet and these are detained in the install docs. I’m pretty sure the latest version of all the docs are listed below:

https://support.emc.com/docu42071_EMC_Secure_Remote_Support_IP_Client_Release_Notes_for_VNX_Version_1.2.0.1.0554.pdf?language=en_US

https://support.emc.com/docu41452_Problem_Resolution_Roadmap_for_VNX_with_ESRS_IP_Client_for_VNX_and_Connect_Home_.pdf?language=en_US

https://support.emc.com/docu41507_EMC_Secure_Remote_Support_IP_Client_for_VNX_Requirements_and_Installation.pdf?language=en_US

https://support.emc.com/docu41201_Secure_Remote_Support_Customer_Environment_Check_Tool_2.16_Operations_Guide.pdf?language=en_US

If this does not resolve your option, you should be able to log a call through Chat or contact your local EMC team.

Customers are not supposed to have RDP to VNX SP as per my understanding. Unisphere GUI and CLI is there for customers to perform any configuration activities.

There are utilities like EMCRemote but are intended for service personnel. ESRS is also not a software for customer to RDP to SP.

:

The ESRS IP Client for VNX software monitors the operation of your EMC®

VNX™ for block and legacy (CX, CX3, CX4, and AX4-5 series) systems for

error events and automatically notifies your service provider of error

events. It also provides a path for your service provider to use to securely

connect to your monitored VNX for block and legacy systems.

Ah

I heard from a EMC engineer. As per him,

"ESRS is software for remote acccess to the SP/ CS;It is basically for support to do a remote access."

you can telnet to that port from control station to check the status or you can do a Remotely Anywhere if ESRS is installed and do a telnet to that port" .....

thanks for your reply Vipin....I will invessitgate about this

He is right also.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, (It also provides a path for your service provider to use to securely

connect to your monitored VNX for block and legacy systems.) support team can have access to your storage for troubleshooting.

There are various ports to be opened in your firewall for various applications like Remotely Anywhere to work. To check the status of the port (open or not) you may try a telnet to that port.

You can speak to your EMC/Partner to get more on this.

hi, Trefor

thanks for your reply.

I installed ESRSIPClient-Win-32-x86-en_US-1.2.0.1.0554-1.exe on a windows2003 box already.

and then I can see 2 icons on the desktop of this windows 2003 box. please refer to the screenshot:

ConnectEMC console, ESRS IP Client Port System.

but it seems they are not what I need.

I clicked "ESRS IP Client Port System" it just connect EMC SP IP address the same way with Unisphere;

I clicked "ConnectEMC" and didn;t figure out hwo to use it but it seems that it can;t meet my requirement.

what I concerned really  if there is a way to RDP to spa or spb ;

for example, the SP IP is 10.74.240.121/122;

and I need to RDP to 10.74.240.121/122 to verify if port 25 is open to the smtp relay server......

In answer to your original question, yes ESRS is free. If you only have one or more VNX (or older CLARiiON’s) products you can use the ESRS IP Client for VNX product to provide an ESRS connection back to EMC. The latest package can be downloaded from support.emc.com the download link is:

https://download.emc.com/downloads/DL30879_EMC_Secure_Remote_Support_(ESRS)_IP_Client_1.2.0.1.0554.exe

It’s free, customer installable and will manage one or more VNX products. If you have products other than VNX that you wish to have managed by ESRS, I would recommend the ESRS Gateway, but while free it’s not customer installable (talk to your local EMC CE).

One quick note -- ESRS is "free" as long as a valid warranty or maintenance agreement is in place with an Enhanced and Premium Support Options. While ESRS connectivity is available for the Basic Support Option, EMC will not open service requests resulting from alerts/notifications for these customers (however, the only EMC hardware system with the option for Basic Support is the VNXe 3100). ESRS connectivity is not available for an EMC system under a limited warranty.
