200 GB drive

Has anyone out there had any problems installing a 200gb drive as a second drive?  I have a Dimension 8300 running XP Pro.  I don't want to open a whole can of worms just to take advantage of a good deal on storage!  Some of you have told me that you have to use a hotfix from Microsoft in order to use a drive that large (greater than 167 GB).  Just checking out what experiences others have had!  Thanks in advance!

I added a 250gig maxtor to my 4500.  It came with a separate board to allow access that large large a drive.  I've xp pro with appropriate service packs applied, if this info helps with your computer model.

There were a few moments of fear as it told me it had no boot device and things like that.  I got everything working though in about 20 minutes.   Make sure that your OLD drive has a meanful LABEL so that you will know it when it comes to formatting or partitioning the NEW one - you do not want to confuse them just in case they wind up reversed or some such.

amajamar.

You should have no problems install a 200g hard drive in the D/8300.  Dell approved, as you will see from the following article, the use of drives up to 200g and as the D/8300 has SP1 installed, the MS hotfix is not required.

See the link above...  That shows the maximum tested capacity...  If you installed a 250 GB without issue I guess a 200 would be fine also.
