8400 with toasted SATA controller on motherboard

It would appear that the SATA controller on my 8400 motherboard has died. I see a couple of options:

1: Disable the on-board SATA and install a PCI/Sata controller card. Suggestions on what to get? I just bought a pair of WD2500KS (250gig) drives thinking my problem was the original HD. I would like to run RAID1 with them if I can.

2: Replace the motherboard. Cost unknown at this time. Hope to get a price tomorrow.

You can buy, a Dell OEM D-8400 motherboard for $39.00, from here,

There should be a white label with the board's model number, next to the PCI slots.
