Activating primary IDE channel on 670

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a used Precision 670 and I'm installing an IDE HD into it. The DVD player is set up on the second IDE channel and I would like to set the HD up on the Primary channel. When I hook the HD up to the promary channel Bios does not find it. Same drive on the secondary channel by itself does show up in the bios, but any combination and master and slave for the DVD and HD end up an unknown device in bios.

The user guide I downloaded doesn't seem to work in win XP so I'm in the dark on how to activate the primary IDE channel - is there a jumper on the motherboard? A hidden bios menu? The system used to have a SCS card in it which I removed and the onboard SCSI is disabled.

Can someone enlighten me to what I'm missing (I have 4 used systems I'd like to get set up soon)

    Thanks fro your help,

Sputnik-D - I hope you've received an answer by now.  I have pretty much the same question.  Can I remove the SATA drive(s) and use IDE hard drives in a Precision 670?

To get access to the User Guide I had to go to the file properties and "unblock" something.  I think this may have been a result of my Norton and/or Microsoft Anti-Spyware security settings.

Following up - I am able to boot to Windows XP from an IDE drive connected to the IDE1 controller as the primary drive using a cable-select cable.  (The only optical drive is a CD-ROM drive on the IDE2 controller.)  Before powering on, I disconnected the power and data cables to the SATA drive that was connected to the SATA_0 connector.
