Blue Ray Player not reading disks
I recently had to replace my hard drive on my inspiron n7010. And after I re-installed the OS and all the drivers I can't seem to get the blue ray player to work. I know I am missing something simple, but I can't figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi dbxhumpty,
By work, I guess you mean play movies. Did you install PowerDVD?

Yes I mean play a blu ray dvd. And yes I installed PowerDVD DX. And the error message reads "there is no disc in the disc drive or your disc drive does not support the format of the inserted disc."

Run the diagnostics with a blu ray disc in the drive.

I tried that and it passed the diagnostic test but still won't read a blu ray disk.

You need to put a blu ray disc in thedrive while you're running the read test on the drive.

I had one in when I ran the test.

If the drive cannot read a blu ray disc while running the diagnostics read test, then it fails the test. You need to contact Dell about replacing the drive.

Are you sure PowerDVD DX supports Blu-ray? Can you browse the contents of a Blu-ray disc in Windows Explorer?

New here.
I recently got a inspiron n7110,
but the optical drive will not play Bluray discs
regardless of which program I use
(computer doesn't even read/use autorun)
PowerDVD does not work either,
so I want to know..... What should I do?

Hi cncgamefan,
The autoplay issue is not related to the drive's ability to read discs. So you first need to determine if the drive is working and the way to do that, as was suggested above, is by testing the drive with various types of discs in the drive.

The drive does work,
it plays other media without problems.
It only has a habit of not reading any BluRay disc I put in.

If there were any other problems with the drive, I'd have mentioned them earlier.
Again, the only problem is with the BluRay feature

cncgamefan,
Run the Diagnostics as osprey4 suggests. The CDs and DVDs use their own lasers for reading the discs. You need to test the BluRay laser.
The Diagnostics should be on your hard drive. Press F12 at startup while the blue Dell is on the screen. This will take you to the boot menu where the Utility Partition or Diagnostics will be a choice. Run the Custom Test for the drive and have a BluRay disc in the drive for the read test. As osprey4 said "If the drive cannot read a blu ray disc while running the diagnostics read test, then it fails the test. You need to contact Dell about replacing the drive."

DBXHumpty, I know this is over 3 years ago, but I am having the exact same problem with the exact same laptop. Of course it's way past warranty time, so every tech support folk wants to charge an arm/leg for an answer on the matter. It would be nice to find out the fix to this.
