Burned CD will not play on anything but computer

I have Burned a CD using tracks that I imported to the hard drive from a tape deck.  The audio is there.  I can play it on the computer from the hard drive and from the CD.  But when I try to play if from a CD player it will not play.

What am I doing wrong?  I have spent hours uploading the tape to my hard drive so that I can burn the CD.

Some basic recording hints.

1.  Record the songs to the hard drive first, do not go directly to the CD.  And, save the songs as wav files, not MP3.

2.  When you get ready to burn them, use a CD-R, not a CD-RW as many audio CD players will not play a CD-RW.  And when you make the music CD, if you are using Roxio Easy CD Creator, use the "Music Project".  Do not make MP3 CD's as again the majority of audio CD players cannot play an MP3 audio disc.

3.  Recording speed can be an issue with many audio CD players.  Do not burn the CD over 12X (initially).

Thanks!  No I did not use audio CD format.  Didn't know anything about it.  I have also used both CD-R and CD-RW

Are you using Audio CD format when your burn the track to the disc?  Did you close the disc?  Did you convert the audio file to WAV.FILE before transferring to the disc?

Open up the audio CD and look at each audio track.  You should see .cda (CD audio track) at the end of each track name.  Also note that older home CD players cannot read CD-RW discs.  You should stick to CD-R discs.  Give Fuji or TDK a try.  It would be helpful if you temporarily reduce the burn speed to 2x or 4x to see if the burn speed has any effect on the readability of the data.

If you have Nero 5, 5.5, or 6, then you can launch the program and select AUDIO CD from the pop up bar.  I haven't use Creator in years so perhaps someone here can be more specfic about the proper procedure with this program.  Transfer the WAV.FILE from each audio track to the burn screen.  Select the option to close the disc and start the burn session.  Use 4x speed and CD-R disc until you've resolved this problem.

If you're using the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 that came with many Dell's, use the "Music Project" to make the music CD and use a BLANK CD-R.  Don not burn any faster than 12X, initially, and see how it works.

I make my own instrumental CD that I sell at concerts and I've used 12X as my "standard" and I've never had one come back as not being playable.  The only other caution is with car in-dash CD players.  Do not put a paper label on those.
