CD DVD doesn't work but audio plays in test.

Worked fine a few weeks ago, now the warranty is done and it doesn't work, surprise surprise.. Did the test, the data cd linear seek test failed. That was the only fail. I continued on and it was able to play audio from a CD so it still works obviously.. What should I do now?

Hi Robbpapineau13,

This could be an issue with the CD so request you to try with a different CD and check if the same issue happens. Also let me know the complete error code that appears.

When a test is run the diagnostic utility tries to look for a bootable disc, if that is absent it gives an error.

Request you to reply with your findings.

I tried many working disks, a brand new cd that works in my parents laptop, a data cd I made, a few dvds. Nothing will show up, weird as I watched a DVD on it a few weeks ago. I know it's not the disks. Thanks for the quick responce

Hi Robbpapineau13,

The linear seek test failure may indicate that your drive has failed, but I suggest you confirm the result. To test your CD/DVD drive from the utility partition:

1. Reboot your system. When you see the Dell logo, hit F12 to enter the boot menu.

2. Select Boot to utility partition or Diagnostics.

3. Select Test System.

4. Select Custom Test.

5. Use the arrow keys or mouse to select your CD/DVD drive.

6. Insert a CD or DVD.

7. Click Run Tests.

8. Write down any error messages.
