CDRW's read as full/read only by XP

I have a Dimension 8300 system with a Teac DVD +RW DVW58E burner. Sometime in the last month or or two Windows XP (Pro) has started seeing seeing all CDRW's on the drive as full regardless of the actual contents. I can burn to the CDRW's with Sonic Record Now software which recognizes the disk as appendable CDRW's with free space on them, but Windows will not recognize the disks as having any free space on them.  Windows Explorere also seems prone to fcrashing when I request the propreties of the disks. I have not done a thorough trouble shooting of the problem (hoping for a quick suggestion here). Anys thoughts?
