Cannot read 8cm DVD-RW created on Sony handycam

I have created a movie on a Sony Handycam and it is stored on 8cm DVD-RW formatted in VRO mode but when I place the DVD's in my DVD drive they are not recognised. I want to copy the DVD's to standard size so I can play them in a DVD player.
My DVD drive is an HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B. The driver is 5.1.2535.0. I have checked for a later driver but I am told no better driver exists.

Can anyone help please?:smileyhappy:

The most common reason for this behavior is that the disc has not been finalized or closed. You need to consult your camera documentation to learn how to do this. The second potential issue is that your drive simply will not read 8-cm discs. If that's the case, the only remedy would be to use video capture to get the video into the computer.

Hi
Thanks for the info. The disc's are finalised and I dont have an analogue input to my computer to capture the video and sound from the camera by the red, yellow and white jack plugs. The Camera itself does not have any means of outputting via USB and so that is why I ended up trying just to read the disc's directly in through my DVD ROM/ CD read/writer. It sounds like the only option is to find a new DVD ROM that will read 8cm disc's.

Thanks once again for the info.

It might be worth purchasing an external drive for this purpose. That way, you have something that can be used to read these discs on any computer.

I have the same problem. I haved been able to view mini discs on my computer until yesterday. Now I just get a message saying cannot read. I have tried to burn a copy of the disc, but just get a message saying no disc in player. It plays other dvd's and cds but not the mini discs. The discs have been recorded on cam corder in video mode, and play back on my home dvdv player and on the camcorder without problem. Anybody have any ideas?

Can't help you unless you provide some hardware details. Model of your system and drive, for starters.

Apologies for not get back sooner..a technical problem this end. My computer is a Dell Dimension 3000 and the dvd player is a Philips DVD+-RWDVD8631. The Driver is version
5.1.2535.0  The player has played the mini discs in the past but now I just get a message saying that the disc cannot be read. I have tried it with Sonic software but that says there is no disc in machine. The mini discs play on the camcorder and also on the DVD player connected to my TV. My tchnological know-how is limited, due to advancing years!! so any help would be greatly appreciated.

My first suggestion would be to open device manager and delete this drive and your secondary IDE controller, then reboot and XP will reinstall these devices. Then try the disc again.

Thanks for that I have tried your suggestion, but no difference. Any other help would be gratefully received.
