DOS driver for the LiteOn SATA CD drive in an Optiplex 745

I was coming to that conclusion.  Since I've found that Microsoft no longer licenses DOS, it is kind of a moot point anyway...

So is any one worked out a way to Ghost using a CD?

I'm working on it now.  I'll have something fairly soon and will post a detailed walk through as I did for the 270/280 Ghost boot CD.

Msdos is Licenced and Legal to use in newer versions of windows.

What would not be legal would be to put MSDOS onto systems for sale without the

Windows software included with the sale.

 

Downgrade Rights - Your agreement grants you the option, "during the term of this agreement to run the most current version, or any previous version of the Software." During the term of your agreement when new versions of the software release, you have the automatic right to deploy those upgrades. You also have the right to run any previous version of the software as needed. These upgrade and downgrade rights also apply to the individual components of the software.  In order to do this you do need 1 licence for each machine used of the most current windows.  However you are not required to run the software with the most current version on the machines.

 

Windows XP includes the Ability to make an MDDOS Startup Floppy.

To create an MS-DOS startup disk

The MS-DOS startup disk you create will allow you to boot into MS-DOS.

1. Insert a floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive.
2. Open My Computer, and then click the floppy disk drive to select it.
3. On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then click Format.
4. Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
5. Click Start.

Windows NT Had a Newtork Client Tool that specifically was for making MSDOS
network startup disks.

Windows 2000 does not contain an equivalent to the the Network Client Administrator tool that is included with Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0. The Network Client Administrator tool is used to create a MS-DOS network startup disk.It is possible to run the Network Client Administrator tool for the x86 platform in Windows 2000.

 

Setting up the Network Client Administrator Program
1. Create a folder called C:\Ncadmin.
2. Copy the following files from the I386 folder on the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM to the folder you created:
Ncadmin.cn_
Ncadmin.ex_
Ncadmin.hl_
NOTE: You may need the CDROM letter:\Clients folder from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM.

3. At a command prompt, change to the C:\Ncadmin folder, and then type the following   
command: expand -r ncadmin.*
4. Double-click Ncadmin.exe, and then follow the instructions for creating a Network Installation Startup Disk.

 

 

This may be nothing more than a virus OR it may be legit.  No way to tell.

Best advice remove your hard drives and see if a boot floppy with this driver actually finds the CDROM.

I just spent the day fighting this issue on an Optiplex 745. I found that if you go into SETUP and go under Drives, SATA Operation, and change the setting to Legacy you will be able to boot to CDs and load images from your server.

To ghost with 2003 CD on the optiplex 740 you can set the hard drive from normal to legacy in the bios. You may need to run chkdsk.
