DVD and CD OK but CD-R quit after Dell sent flash utility (5D-C2612)
The Toshiba DVD-ROM drive worked fine. Dell sent upgrade to BIOS and flash utility for drive. Now will read DVD and Dell supplied CD-ROM but will no longer read, write nor recognize previously written CD-R disks or new virgin CD-R disks. Have done diagnostics, reboots, reinstalled drivers, etc. to no avail. Downloaded procedures from Dell tech support and went through all of those. Any hint of what to try next would be appreciated.

You can find this information by looking in device manager under DVD/CD-ROM.

To do this, look in device manager> DVD/CD-ROM> highlight your optical drive and right click it> properties and under details could you quote what comes after the ID string of your optical drive. It should read something like A05 or A04 but I need to be sure.
