Dell Dimension 4600. Which Hard Drive?

Hi All,
Could someone inform me as to what type of extra hard drive I can put in a Dell Dimension 4600? I have a 80 gig in there now, and would like to add more storage. I did see an empty hdd slot when I opened the case. I am looking for something around 80 gigs. I did the "Parts for my Dell" search and it only returned external hard drives. Can I use a standard off the shelf hard drive? Also, could someone run down the correct procedure for installing a new hard drive, for me. Things like jumper settings, formatting, etc.
Thanks, and if someone could give me a link to the exact hard drive that will work great. I'm not too up on all the hdd lingo.
Thanks a bunch, you forum people have been real helpful in the past, Thank You!

I too am looking to do the same thing.  Can anyone tell me exatly what hard drive I should buy?  I have no clue what a PATA or SATA drive is.  So please dumb it down for me.

I have a Dimension 4600.

Thanks,

Hi AMWJ,

I ended up getting a Maxtor 80G hard drive. It installed very easily, no surprises. But be sure you follow the instructions that come with the hard drive to the letter, (they're easy) and you will have no problems. Here is the info for the drive I got:

80GB Internal Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Dr

SKU: A0193689

This is the page I bought it from:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A0193689&c=us&l=en&cs=19&category_id=2999&page=external

Hope this helps. It is really pretty easy. It was my fist time installing one, and I had no problems. Good Luck, let us know how it goes. Take Care,

Thanks so much for your quick and specific reply.  That is exactly what I needed.  I'll be picking up one and I'll let you know how installation goes.
