Detecting problem with the Samsung CD-Rom drive (SN-124 driver)
Hey!
I've got here some of the Optiplex GX100 here with the Samsung CD-Rom Drive and I want to sell them, but I got a problem with the drive. It's not working and it doesn't show up in the Device Manager. I've read that it maybe has to do something with the IDE, because there are 2 IDE is missing symbols or something like that in the device manager underneath the HDD
I hope you can help me
Thank you

The most common cause of a drive not appearing in the Device Manager is a poor connection.
Open the system and redo the connections at the back of the drive. Trace the IDE (flat ribbon)
cable to the motherboard and redo the connection there also.

I've done what you said, I even took a working cable out of another computer, but it's still not working.

The Optiplex GX100 has two IDE channels; Primary IDE and a Secondary IDE.
In the Device Manager, do both show? Or, is just the Secondary IDE missing?

Hey!
They both show, but in their device status it says that the driver is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed.

Since they are both there, click on the Secondary IDE and see if the the CD drive is there. If yes,
right-click the drive and select Properties. Is there and error code (number)?
Additionally, what operating system are you using?

The OS is Windows 98 second edition. There's a JPEG File, so you can see how it looks like
There is no CD drive : /
It says in the device status in brackets "Code 10"

Windows 98 is vintage. Have you tried loading the IDE Controller software from Dell's GX100 download page .........

I downloaded it now and installed in on a floppy disk, but i can't run the autoexec because it says "Error, can't update CD rom driver... Press any key to end autoexec"
What am I supposed to do now?

I still got the problem... Does anyone have a suggestion how to solve it?
When I try to update the driver through the device manager it says that the driver which is currently installed, but somehow not working, needs no update and the program would rather stay with the old driver. : /
