Dimension 3000 will not reboot after lock up

I rebooted because of a lock up and now nothing. I tried to start in safe mode but get a message saying tried to reboot but failure at USBO. Any suggestions on what to try would be appreciated.

you have change settings in bios and disable the usb from boot options ,,, it will surely resolve your problem....

I agree that should work but how can you do this if it doesn't boot up to a menu screen. When powered up it first would only go to the Dell screen and stop in safe mode it went to the screen message and that is it.

I have a lot of data that I would hate lose. I may need to pull the hard drive and try to boot up on another system.

Hi, dscott:

I apologize for the poorly written and confusing advice provided by "yogesh1981".

It sounds like your system is choking during the loading of the operating system. First, boot to the BIOS to make sure your boot devices are listed properly. To do this, hit F2 at the blue Dell logo, as described on page 80 of your service manual, then go to the option Boot Sequence. The devices should be CD-ROM first, then hard disk drive (always leave CD first).

Next, reboot the system and choose F8 just as the blue Dell logo disappears and select Last Known Good Configuration.

Thanks for the help

I just found out the motherboard is bad. Deciding whether to fix or replace now.

A Dell OEM Dimension 3000 motherboard can be purchased from here for $99.99 free S&H.

The model/part number is usually on a small white label on the top of the motherboard.

You could try calling Dell Spare Parts and see if they will give you the info,.

Thanks again

I am going to go this route instead of new. I talked to Ascendtech and they thought this board will work in all 3000. I don't have the old board out yet and can't find any of the model # on the top that matches. It could be on bottom of the board. Can I contact Dell with the service tag to find out what board is in this unit?
