Disc drive ejecting when nothing is in it on my Studio 1535

I am having problems with the disc drive, when i start the computer up the light for the disc is on and after about 3 minutes it will start trying to eject the disc, also none of the other pressure buttons will work untill it does that, this is a problem because i attend classes and i cannot have the disc drive going off at random times

Have you tried updating the CD/DVD drive's firmware? I had the same problem and recently updated it. And it may have stopped (didn't use it long enough to definitely say so).

By now I'm pretty sure that did the trick. Didn't try burning a DVD though.

How to do it? Most important is to find out which drive exactly you have in your machine.  Afterwards you simply download the firmware from the Dell driver page accordingly. It'll be an executable which you run and then reboot, it's as easy as that.

If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I had the same problem with my studio 1536, constantly ejecting cd's even when none were present.  I called tech support after trying everything from updating the bios, and even reinstalling windows and starting over from scratch.  It took them 45 minutes to tell me they would have to ship me replacement parts.  The shipped me a new media button case cover (with touch sensative buttons) and a new cd rom.  I chose to install only the case cover, and so far the problem has not come back, if it does decide to come back i will try replacing the drive itself.           P.S. replaceing the piece took a whole whopping 4 minutes, and fixed almost 3 months of annoyance.
